This position is open to current BIDDERS from Local 150 AND the PUBLIC including current city employees in other unions or non-union positions. Only current city employees covered under the City's Collective Bargaining Agreement with International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150 - BARGAINING UNIT 42 are considered BIDDERS, these individuals are eligible to bid. Qualified BIDDERS who properly submit a bid will receive preference over any non-bidders.

Under supervision, perform journey level Hoister Engineer work, operating heavy construction and off-road equipment used to excavate, lift, move and load earth, water and sewer pipes, and other heavy materials and equipment; and perform related duties as required
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
* Drives and operates heavy construction and off-road equipment including front-end loaders, high lifts, crawler tractors, backhoes, compactors, motorgraders, pavers, grinders and excavators at a work site to dig trenches, backfill, street and ground openings, asphalt street paving and tamping, and loading, lifting and setting pipe
* Operates air compressors, pumps and other power equipment at construction sites
* Controls and maneuvers heavy construction equipment by using switches, moving levers and foot pedals and applying knowledge of equipment operations
* Inspects equipment for operating condition, checking fluid levels, cables and hoses for wear and replacing worn parts to ensure safe and efficient operation
* Greases and lubricates moving parts at regularly scheduled intervals to ensure efficient performance of equipment
* Operates a mobile crane, requiring a Crane Operator's license, to lift materials and other heavy objects at a work site
* Prepares work activity report

MINIMUM QUALFICATIONS
Successful completion of a US Department of Labor registered Operating Engineer apprenticeship training program and journeyman status, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as specified below*.
Licensure, Certification, or Other Qualifications
* A commercial driver's license (CDL) Class A or B as issued by the State of Illinois required at time of processing
* Positions operating a mobile crane must possess a Crane Operator's license as issued by the City of Chicago
NOTE: Some lifting (up to 100 pounds) may be required.
*Equivalent combination of education, training and experience must be in relation to heavy equipment operations for a minimum for 3 years (Trackhoe, Dozer, Loader, Motorgrader, Skidsteer front-end loaders, high lifts, crawler tractors, backhoes, compactors, pavers, grinders and excavators at a work site to dig trenches, backfill, street and ground openings, asphalt street paving and tamping, and loading, lifting and setting pipe). Experience must be listed on resume/application and able to be verified.
This position is covered by the Federal Department of Transportation ("DOT") regulations. Candidates who receive a contingent offer of employment must pass a pre-employment drug test that includes cannabis/marijuana as part of the drug test panel. Candidates who test positive for cannabis or any illegal drug will have their contingent offer of employment revoked.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS
This position requires candidates to pass a skills assessment. Test results will be sent out by the Department of Human Resources after test results have been compiled and analyzed. Applicants who successfully apply for the position, meet the minimum qualifications, and possess the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be hired in seniority or lottery/random order.
* Test 3 (For DWM ONLY): Excavator Fluid Inspection and Operation
o You will be required to safely use the digging arm and to excavate an area
* Test 4 (For DWM ONLY): High Lift Loader Inspection and Operation
o You will be required to use the Highlift Loader to backfill, compact and grade the excavated area
Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

Residency Requirement: All employees of the City of Chicago must be actual residents of the City as outlined in 2-152-050 of the City of Chicago Municipal Code. Proof of residency will be required.
